Department Profile Of History

St. Ann’s Degree College for Women was sanctioned with effect from the academic year 1991-1992. The Department of History at Degree level is in existence right from the inception of the college. The first batch students completed their 3 years bachelor’s degree with History, Economics and Public administration group in March 1994. The Department of History has been achieving 100% pass result since  1994. Mrs.G.Lalitha and Sr. Miriam are the faculty members of the department.

Mrs G. Lalitha HOD, joined in 1993 and completed 28 years of glorious service to this institution. G. Lalitha is the head of the Department of History. She was the topper from Andhra university in the year 1991 and received three gold medals from the Department of History and Archaeology. She is a member of Andhra university History Board of Studies (UG). She visited many historical sites all over the world, with this global outlook and knowledge she has become an inspiration to our students here.

Sr. Miriam was a student of this college. Presently she is working as a History lecturer.

The innovate feature of the Department is conducting Excursions to Delhi, Agra and Hyderabad etc.

The History Department seeks to build its students transferable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies.

Mission of the department:

The History Department prepares students for a wide range of careers by teaching a core set of transferable skills through the study of societies.

Objectives of the history:

1 History aims at helping to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the people
2. Studying history helps us understand and grapple with complex questions and dilemmas by examining how the past has shaped and continues to shape
3. To honour our ancestors
4. The past is one big experiment that helps us to make better decisions today

Projects under taken:

As a part of project work visit places of historical sites, museumand archives etc

Events and activities:

1. Writing essays on specified events in history
2. Celebrations of all important national days
3. Identifying historical     maps      and     flow    charts     and diagrams toillustrate specified course events
4. Extension lectures
5. Coaching for competitive exams
6. Explore documents, maps, charts related to history

Future prospects:

Knowledge of our past helps us to see humans react and deal with situations. History helps us to learn from our mistakes giving us insight into the future.

In employment purpose also this subject has many prospects. They can become civil servants through competitive examinations. They also can become museum archivist, librarians, teachers, living historian, public relations manager, political scientist, advertising, journalist, tourism and work in the development sectors etc.
